CAMP LOCATION: Located in the former Sur la Table at The Gateway.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Every lesson is focused on learning about healthy eating and cooking. Build confidence in the kitchen. During every lesson, you will learn about nutrition and apply those skills in the kitchen. Enjoy preparing and eating healthy foods every day.
DAY 1 – BUILD CONFIDENCE IN THE KITCHEN
Knowing how to cut and prepare foods in the kitchen can be intimidating. During this lesson, you will learn basic knife skills and practice these skills by designing your own food art. Additionally, learn about food safety, a variety of kitchen tools, and being safe in the kitchen. You will also learn about the different parts of the Wellness Wheel. We will discuss what aspects of life impact our health and why caring for our bodies is important.
DAY 2 – NUTRIENTS FOR A HEALTHY BODY
Build your knowledge about the different types of foods we eat. We will be analyzing food labels and learning about how food affects our bodies. Learn about the differences between carbs, proteins, and fats. Discover what nutrients are important to our bodies. Put it all together by cooking a nutritious meal that provides the perfect balance of carbs, proteins, and fats.
DAY 3 – SUGAR, FAT, AND FAD DIETS
Not every food is beneficial for the body. Test your knowledge about sugar and fat through a fun game. Learn about different diets and the benefits and disadvantages of each. Afterwards, participants will prepare a meal made from foods that protect our bodies and keep us healthy and happy.
DAY 4 – IMPROVE YOUR DIET
How can we make our diets better? During this lesson, you will analyze your own diet and think about ways you can make it better. The majority of this lesson will be spent in the kitchen creating a variety meals. We will focus on cooking foods for breakfast, lunch, dinners, and snacks.
